“Sweetness in Disguise” is a Jugendstil-inspired portrait depicting a koala bear embodied as an elegantly dressed woman in an evening gown. The composition is framed by a circular arrangement of cherry blossoms - some delicately outlined, others rendered in a surreal manner, dissolving into clouds as if drifting through a dream.
Beneath the visible image lies a textured surface made not only of canvas, but also of paper cuttings from antique zoological illustrations, adding historical and natural depth to the piece.
The artwork reflects on the animalistic essence within humanity, a reminder that, despite our creations, our progress, and the refined appearances we present to the world, we remain inseparably part of nature. No matter how polished or sweet our exterior may seem, our primal roots still shape who we are.
