On June 19th, artist Tom Lohner had the honor of officially presenting his Steiermark Paravent as a symbol of friendship between Styria and Osaka during the Austrian celebration at Expo 2025.
The artwork was ceremoniously handed over to the Osaka University of the Arts, where it now found its permanent home.
A particularly moving moment occurred during a speech by Dr. Tsukamoto, Vice President of the University, who stated:
“When Osaka hosts another Expo in 55 years, Tom Lohner’s Paravent will once again be shown, as a piece of cultural heritage.”
Art endures – and with it, the bridge between two cultures.

A powerful fusion of two worlds: This warrior stands in front of Japan’s iconic rising sun, dressed in stylized samurai armor, but look closer - he carries the soul of Styria. Traditional Styrian patterns flow through his armor. A proud “Austrian deer antler” crowns his helmet - not just decoration, but identity. Sword drawn, energy captured - East meets West in one motion. Hidden in the artwork: “Styrian Samurai“, “Uniting Cultures“ - if you find it, you’re part of the story. This piece is about honor, heritage, and the beauty of connection.

Created in Tom’s signature layered acrylic technique, this commissioned work invites viewers into a dreamlike world of wanderlust. Through the soft blends, sharp lines, new cubism, surreal transitions, a hidden world unfolds - their home at the heart of it all, connected by clouds to faraway lands, wild creatures, and cherished passions. Cyclists ride through winding paths, dancers glide beyond a ribbon of piano keys, explorers cross continents. Every cloud carries a story, every brushstroke a memory, every hue a fragment of the great adventure we call life.

Floating weightlessly in an unreal realm, Fortuna is surrounded by clouds that swirl and dance around her. She holds a great horn overflowing with luck, from which two magnolia flowers gently fall, symbols of inner beauty. Hidden within their petals lies a quiet message: "Listen to your heart." Alongside them, small wishballs drift through the air. Each one a vessel of dreams, ideas, and fortune waiting to be claimed.
Beneath her, a small Greek-inspired temple let swirls of luck appear from its core, as if channeling the energy of fortune itself. To the bottom right, a tiny hotel-like structure emerges from the clouds, its scale emphasizing the goddess’s overwhelming presence and size of appearance.
Behind her, an abstract dome of flowing lines forms created from the backdrop, a sanctuary and gateway to possibility / temple like.
Yet, while Fortuna embodies the spirit of chance, luck is never merely given, it is recognized, shaped, and seized by those who dare to listen to their own hearts. This artwork is a reminder that fortune favors those who take action, who create their own opportunities, and who believe that within them lies the power to shape their destiny. An artwork about the trust that you can find within yourself!

This artwork, painted on a BMW M4 car hood, explores the contrast between material wealth and emotional richness. Featuring symbols of luxury like a flying BMW, majestic horses, a sleeky yacht, a vault overflowing with cash, and a sprawling mansion on top of a mountain, the piece challenges the viewer to reflect on what truly matters, hinted by little small heart in the middle of the painting. While these opulent items capture the eye, the underlying message is clear: it's only with a good heart that one can genuinely appreciate such possessions. The work invites us to look beyond the superficial and cherish the intangible qualities that bring true joy.

“Don’t Worry Puppy” marks the first piece in Tom Lohner’s series, “Novelism”.
In this collection, the artist reimagines vintage book covers, infusing them with a deep connection to our animalistic instincts. Each character is depicted with an animal’s head, a symbolic reminder that, at our core, we are all creatures of nature.
This acrylic painting explores the tension between impulse and restraint. It captures a moment of imbalance: a cat-headed woman lunges forward, driven by ego and desire to seize everything at once. Opposite her, a dog-headed man remains calm, composed, knowing that true power lies in waiting for the right moment to respond.

This is the "The Charming Navigator" a painted sculpture, in the form of a bear with mouse ears. Standing at 100 cm tall and approximately 60 cm wide, this hard polymer sculpture is vibrantly adorned with acrylic paint in warm tones. The bear, embodying the persona of a pilot, showcases large, expressive eyes fashioned from airplane wings.
The sculpture is a nostalgic homage to the airplane and travel culture of the late 1950s. It features a 360-degree painting of clouds with two planes in descent—one in the front and one on the bear's back. The bear's ears are illuminated with painted airplane lights, surrounded by countless intricate details reminiscent of the aviation industry.

This dynamic piece captures the raw, untamed energy of Taylor Momsen, frontwoman of The Pretty Reckless, in a moment of musical intensity. The phrase "Oh - my - God" subtly emerges in the background, referencing one of the band's songs and heightening the drama of the scene. The band's name, Pretty Reckless, is woven into the bottom of her dress, while the upper part features stars and the band’s logo at her chest. In this dynamic homage to the IncredibleHulk, artist Tom Lohner’s distinctive style brings the iconic character to life in vibrant hues and bold strokes. Painted with acrylic on a sizable canvas, the Hulk dominates the scene with his imposing presence and raw power.
The Hulk’s emerald green skin, meticulously rendered with intricate musculature, pulsates with energy and strength. His massive form is clad in tattered purple shorts, torn asunder by the sheer force of his transformation. His oversized, luminous orange eyes pierce through the canvas, drawing the viewer into his fierce gaze.
Against an abstract backdrop, swaths of color swirl and merge, echoing the tumultuous emotions roiling within the Hulk. Shades of green, purple, and orange dominate the composition, reflecting the essence of the protagonist himself.
At the center of the Hulk’s chest, the words „RawPower“ are emblazoned, serving as a visceral reminder of the boundless strength that courses through his veins. In his unruly mane of hair, the word „Hulk“ is woven seamlessly, further emphasizing his identity.
A careful observer may discern hidden within the intricate patterns of the Hulk’s skin, the subtle presence of the Marvel logo and the name of the original person behind the character, paying homage to the rich history and legacy of this beloved superhero.
In Tom Lohner’s skilled hands, the Incredible Hulk transcends the confines of comic book pages, leaping forth from the canvas with an intensity and vitality that captivates the imagination. This artwork stands as a testament to the enduring power and timeless appeal of one of Marvel’s most iconic creations.

This artwork is a vibrant homage to Adolf Kolping, one of the most influential social reformers of the 19th century. The painting radiates warm orange tones inspired by the colors of the Kolpinghaus in Graz.
The portrait combines hidden symbols and puzzles that illustrate Kolping’s values and life story. Central elements include:
The Cologne Cathedral, referencing Kolping’s hometown.
His role as a journeyman and his apprenticeship as a shoemaker.
The emphasis on family and community.
The Kolpinghaus in Graz as a symbol of his enduring legacy.
Integrated into the work are oversized letters of Kolping’s famous quote: "If we want to become something, we must do it ourselves."
These words embody the spirit of self-responsibility and determination Kolping championed. They inspire viewers to take action in shaping their own lives—a message that remains timeless.
The painting was created to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the Kolpinghaus in Graz and was unveiled during a special ceremony. It is a profound honor for me to represent such a historic institution through a modern "Pop Art" piece. Today, the painting is prominently displayed at the Kolpinghaus, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and contemporary art. It invites all visitors to rediscover Kolping’s vision and values.
